For young people

Questions you might actually have.

Plain answers, no brochure talk. If your question is not here, ask us and we will add it.

Who will be there?

A consistent team of adults who work here all the time, not a rota of strangers. The same faces at breakfast, the same faces at bedtime. You will get to know them properly, and they will get to know you.

What will my bedroom look like?

Your own room, with a proper bed and space for your things. It starts plain on purpose, because the next bit is up to you.

Can I decorate my room?

Yes. Posters, paint colours, your own stuff on the shelves. It is your room and it should look like you live in it.

Can I see my family?

Time with your family is planned around you, and we will talk you through it before you arrive.

Do I have to eat what everyone else eats?

We all eat around one table, but tell us what you love and what you cannot face. The cooking has room for both. Nobody here wins arguments about mushrooms.

What school will I go to?

That gets decided with you, not for you, and we help you get there and settle in. More about school.

What happens on my first night?

You will be shown your room and the house, and introduced to whoever is in. Nobody expects anything of you that evening. You can unpack everything, or nothing at all. Both are fine.

What happens if I get angry?

Then you are angry, and we deal with that together. Bad days do not get you sent away. The adults here are not going anywhere, and that includes the days you would rather they did.

Can I complain?

Yes, and it is easy. You can tell anyone who works here, or go outside the house entirely. How to complain explains every route, including people who do not work for us.

Will someone actually listen?

Yes. Your care plan is reviewed with you, not just about you, and you can change your mind about things. What you say at the kitchen table counts as much as what gets written down.
